The artist's emotion behind the title 'The Darkest Hour'

A solo exhibition by Tokyo-based artist Hiroki Tsukuda, who is highly regarded both in Japan and abroad, is currently presented at NANZUKA UNDERGROUND in Jingumae.

Hiroki Tsukuda was born in 1978 and is known for his style, which is strongly influenced by science fiction films, TV games, animation, manga, music and novels, reflected in his solo exhibition 'The Darkest Hour'.

The exhibition features three-dimensional works based on three-dimensional collages made from reconstructed small figurines such as Star Wars, Gundam, and Monster Hunter that the artist himself has collected over the years, installations composed of many found objects and new mixed materials media paintings that he has developed on his own.

These seemingly unique works can be interpreted as the artist's observations on social issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic, war, conflicts between major powers and the growing gap between the rich and the poor, which give a sense of the artist's inner feelings expressed through visual expression.
