The Next Step Taken by Nike's Sustainable Spirit
Nike has launched Nike Forward as a new innovation platform for apparel production.
The result of five years of research and development, Nike Forward is also a technology that creates textiles directly from fibres by needle-punching. It simplifies the production process compared to knitted and woven materials, and can also significantly reduce the carbon footprint, which is on average 75% less than the company's traditional knitted fleece.
The first products to use this latest technology will be a classic-looking grey hoodie and crew sweatshirt. The design eliminates any embellishment, uses zero water in the dyeing process and keeps the cut-out details of the pockets as they are.
The reason why the brand calls it a platform is that the Nike Forward can also be used in a variety of material productions depending on its structure. That said it’s better to keep an eye on what other options will be added in the future under the Forward line.
These two styles will be available on NIKE.COM, the NIKE app and selected Nike retailers on 17 September.
